Biography (English):
Yuan Goang‑Ming, born in Taipei in 1965, is recognized as one of Taiwan’s pioneering figures in video and media art. Since 1984, Yuan has worked extensively with video as his primary medium, evolving from early single-channel video experiments to immersive multimedia installations that integrate spatial and technological elements. His practice transforms the language of technology into poetic visual narratives, using measured pacing and meticulous composition to lead viewers into deep psychological and social contemplation. Recurring themes in his work include the concept of “home” and “dwelling,” which extend to reflections on urban transformation, social instability, and cultural memory in the context of globalization. Through metaphor and symbolism, Yuan addresses the fragility and resilience of human existence in times of change.
Internationally, Yuan has represented Taiwan in major exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale, Gwangju Biennale, and the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art. His works are in the collections of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, and the ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany, among others.
